Jude watched Fiona from the balcony. She looked beautiful with her hair whipping in the breeze and lit by the setting sun.

He turned his attention back to the weather forecast. They’d get a glancing blow from the storm late tomorrow. They’d button up the house tight in the morning, but it really shouldn’t be much worse than a heavy rain.

Fiona’s laugh floated up to the balcony, and the hand that held the phone tightened into a fist-like grip.

Slater was standing behind her with his arms around her, as if teaching her how to use his camera required full-body contact and positioning.

And he’d made Fiona laugh.

Bringing Dean Slater to Ruby Island had been the biggest mistake of his life. He should have fired Chad on the spot once he found out the archaeologist’s assurances that there was nothing between the two had been complete bullshit.

But dammit, he needed Chad and Sadie for the survey. Fiona never would have signed on without them.

His phone vibrated, and he checked the text. Ned Hanson had run into a snag with customs in the US Virgin Islands, questions about clearance from Dominica or some such.

Jude frowned. That was the second guest to mention having issues when they reached their next port.

Jude had signed all the clearance papers and passed them on to Kosmo’s assistant to make sure each yacht had what they needed. Had the guy—Erik, if he remembered correctly—screwed up somehow? Mixed up the paperwork?

He sent a text to Kosmo alerting him to the issue, then returned his focus to the couple on the beach below.

As long as Fiona stayed on his island, he had a chance to convince her. But he needed to find a way to get rid of Slater. Once the photographer was gone, she’d fall in love with him, and they’d live happily ever after in paradise.
